I am making the effort to blog more. Like, post something at least weekly. I’ve been percolating and drafting a post about currency (see Twitter) for the past week, but since I’ve misgivings about resuming with something as bold as that (not to mention, if I wait til that’s finished, I might never get started blogging again), I’m just gonna dip my toe in right now, see how the water feels, and hope I do, indeed, start to swim.

Still with me? Ok. Thanks. Bless ya.

An established, talented domme friend of mine messaged me earlier today, outraged over two feature stories in the New York City mainstream press (WPIX Ch. 11 and the NYPost, to be specific) about a Brooklyn-based dominatrix who believes — depending on which piece you follow — the “Fifty Shades of Grey” media blitz will either have dozens of new clients groveling at her feet or is going to be the death of her business.

A little later, I’m browsing a vanilla social media site and find out that Miley Cyrus has submitted a bondage video to the New York Porn Film Festival.

I knew immediately that I wouldn’t be posting the news links for the actual domme anywhere, but I debated posting a link to the Miley vid on Twitter. But why promote a provocatrix (who really needs no more publicity) over a dominatrix? Weirdly, I don’t generally mind mainstream “vanilla” folks splashing around in our rubber pool. If seeing Miley rubbing liquid latex all over herself validates some uncertain teen’s nascent desire, all the better. Welcome, kiddo!  I take much more issue with active prodommes sticking their name-brand stilettos into the NYC press, talking about how much they charge and the kinds of scenes they do. All that does is bring the wrong kind of attention to the prodomme community, not to mention the domme herself. (JesusDios, I know sound like a crotchety, “Get off my lawn!” old lady…but tell me I ain’t right on this.) I still firmly believe the Purge of 2008 (or “The Horror” or “The Reaping” or  whatever you want to call it) was because Bloomberg (or Spitzer)  woke up one February morning and saw kink on the front page of the NYPost and sputtered, “What the hell? Not in MY city!” and unleashed the hounds. (That’s only a portion of the arrests that were made in 2008. Shit was trill. But not in a good way.)

It’s one thing if you’re well and retiredquasi-retired, or at the very least speaking under a pseudonym. But if you’re making your living as a prodomme and you wanna put your business on blast in the New York Post/NYDaily News or whatever, your thirstiness negatively affects all of us who’d much prefer a lower profile where we handle our business discreetly. I’ve been referenced/quoted in the New York Times and other mainstream publications several times — but never by my professional name. To do so, I’ve always felt, would be a disservice to my clients and also to my own privacy. I have advertising outlets where I can safely promote myself. Most of the reputable, serious dommes I know would never be so cavalier as to discuss their business in a public vanilla forum because to do so is to put a target on yourself and all of us.

So, with that… Herrrrrrrrrrre’s Miley!

  • Hi Ms. Orleans:

I never thought about it before but that’s probably exactly what went down in 2008. Having worked in city government for a brief time I know first hand that there is nothing politicians dislike more than the wrong kind of attention from the press. Of course coming from Spitzer (a.k.a Client 9) that is thoroughly hypocritical and the very height of absurdity! As for the New York Post and the media frenzy surrounding Fifty Shades blech and double blech!! I am sure I will enjoy the Miley Cyrus video though! It is really nice to see you posting again! I look forward to reading more! 🙂

Hopefully, I’ll have more to write!

I DO have some new toys but … well, that’s for me to know and you to find out! Ha. Just kidding. I’ve gotten some great gear recently from Sex and Metal, Stockroom, and Mr S. I’m sure it’ll show up around here one way or another.

  • Hi Ms. Orleans,

I wonder if some people just lack class or the ability to think about the complete consequences of their actions. In today’s world, people are always searching for their 15 minutes of fame. They’re constantly promoting themselves on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc… Even Miley Cyrus is trying to stay on top of the entertainment world. So she tries to do outlandish and risqué things to attract attention. It seems everyone is looking for attention. There’s a lot of rampant narcissim running around in the world. I think it is best to keep the “kink” out of the mainstream. Although we like to think of America as being progressive, we are much more conservative then most countries.

You posted a gadget posting a while back. Any new toys to speak of?!

    Cheers,
    MD
